National Leadership Council to Advance Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement for All

The National Leadership Council (NLC) to Advance Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement for All, is a new partnership that brings together influential national organizations committed to strengthening civic learning across higher education. The council will coordinate leadership, align strategies, and amplify collective impact to accelerate the growth of the college civic learning movement. By connectings institutions, state systems, national associations, policymakers, and philanthropic partneres, the NLC aims to make civic learning and democracy engagement an expected, measurable, and integral part of every student’s higher education experience.  

Jonathan R. Alger, America 250 Fellow with the American Council on Education and the American Association of Colleges & Universities, chairs the National Leadership Council. Widely recognized for his leadership on the civic purposes of higher education, he is advancing a national agenda to strengthen civic learning and democratic engagement as a central component of every student's college experience through his work as the America 250 Fellow.
